The Races.
Barcelona 2011
Organised by: Cureghem Centre
Continental and UK Marking: Sunday 3rd July
Liberation: Friday 8th July
Minimum distance for the International Race: now reduced to 890km from 900km
Well the Barcelona liberation point has now been moved from the heights of Montjuic Park to the depths of the beach at Platja de Llevant about four miles away. I really feel sorry for the convoyer's who will now feel almost obliged to take a dip in those shimmering waters before getting the pigeons away. While it will make the race a fraction shorter this will make little difference as they will now have to climb from sea level and not benefit from the slight lift that Montjuic gave them.

Once again the actual numbers of pigeons sent is not quite clear. The figures quoted below may not therefore be accurate although the numbers quoted for Germany and Netherlands have been taken from their respective web sites.
The 2011 figures shown below have now been confirmed by the Cureghem Centre and while there is a drop in the numbers sent from Belgium and Germany there is a rise in those sent from France and the Netherlands as well as a really significant rise in the Polish entry and a substantial new send from Denmark. The UK entry is of course down because the B.B.C. raced from Palamos.

Early Arrivals in France.
After those few early arrivals the wind and the night brought a host of longer flyers through the following morning to Holland and Belgium with victory going to Amsterdam.
