The number of pigeons sent is quite difficult to establish at this time. Nothing is shown on the Bordeaux/Televie site and the only figures available are those on PIPA which show:
Belgium 11,170
Netherlands 8,577
Germany 1,636
U.K. 646
Total 22,029
There is confusion over the UK entry as the BICC web site still reliably quotes an entry of 664 pigeons as against the 646 shown on PIPA. Some UK pigeons, whilst entered, did not get to the race point and the exact number of these has not been published so it is very difficult to know exactly what the figures are.
France is virtually excluded from this race due to distance which makes it quite unsatisfactory as a true International race especially as France is these days very competitive as a Nation.
As often happens, at the very last minute, the race point has changed and the liberation will now be some 16 1/2 miles further HERE at Agen.
Saturday 2nd July Liberation at 0645 - 0545 UK time.

Steve Appleby's Weather for Pigeon Fanciers
UPDATED SATURDAY 2ND JULY AT 07:30
The weather today is almost purpose built for racing from France. Temperatures are ideal and will only reach maximums of about 22C. Maybe an isolated pocket of rouge mist in some areas early on but generally visibility is excellent. Conditions through northern and central France is of clear blue skies confirmed by Richard King the MNFC convoyer at Tours. As the morning moves on large white cumulous clouds will develop giving a day of sunny warm spells. Winds will be very light and variable inland but the influence over the channel will be from the northeast.
The MNFC liberated from Tours at 05:50.
This image shows the mainly clear skies over France and England early this morning
CHANNEL
Weather : Fair or fine with long sunny periods.
Max : 23 °C
Visibility : Very good.
Wind : East to northeast light F2 to F3
Winds light from the northeast over the channel
8-9 mph
Well here was a race designed for Geoff Cooper and Mark Gilbert if only the weather was right, and the weather was right so they came to the front and won in a way which only they can at this point in time. The only real competitors in these weather conditions would have been the French but they were eliminated from the start by the minimum distance thus allowing another magnificent UK victory, the second on the trot in 2011. One other name well worth mentioning at this stage is Freialdenhofen & Son who have again put in a great team performance from about the least favourable location in this race. Proper results will be delayed by the last minute change of liberation point.
Just to add to the comment above concerning Freialdenhofen & Son from Aldenhoven, Germany who sent 47 yearlings and timed 17 on that first day at 1934, 1937, 1942, 1955, 2000, 2013, 2018, 2021, 2024, 2025, 2031, 2031, 2041, 2041, 2108, 2112, and 2127. They got 31 of those yearlings back taking the top three positions National with 10 in the top 20 National and 14th International with four more in the top 90 International.
